Gosh last night was hot wasn't it!
When I get heat rash I usually get it worse on my upper thighs and arms. It looks like massive blotches that are incredibly itchy and annoying! Also i get very bad eczema on my back which plays up in the heat as well:(
But thankfully something good has come out of all that scratching and shuffling last night, it inspired me to make a blog post about how I deal with it!
So first of all I am no expert but these are just what I would recommend to anyone to do.
1: DO NOT SCRATCH IT! Now I'm sure if you suffer from regular skin rashes then you know not to itch it because all it does it make it worse! Listen you may feel relief from itching it but it will not make it go away, and if you just leave it alone it will leave no marks or scabs from bleeding whereas if you did itch it you could leave very sore scratch marks and even scar your skin! Convince yourself not to itch it, I try my hardest not to, I distract myself by doing something else e.g- if you cant get to sleep at night because of how itchy it is maybe read a book? It wont hurt your eyes like watching TV and it may help you drift off.
Now I know that when it's at night and I'm half awake I unconsciously scratch my skin and then wake up with horrible marks that I hadn't even realised I'd done. By using a steroid ointment such as betnovate (you can get it off your doctor) it can help speed up the healing process of the damaged skin.
These next steps are mainly for daytime heat rashes because I know that I cant be bothered to do it all at night haha!
2: When I feel a heat rash coming on I straight away take an allergy tablet, I either have piriton which you can by from literally any drug store, pharmacy or big supermarket or a cetirizine hydrochloride tablet which my doctor prescribed to me for my eczema. I know scary name right? But it's all fine! If you don't feel that any of these tablets help you then you can skip this step or talk to your doctor about stronger tablets. The reason why I take one is because I'm not completely sure what starts up my heat rash (obviously the heat!) but it could be symptoms of hay fever or an animal allergy and by taking an allergy tablet it will just prevent anything else worse from happening.
3: Heat rash is incredibly uncomfortable and these are little things you can do to relieve the itch.
- I'm sure there are many products you can by to help you, but who has time for that now a days?! When you're in pain and you need relief you need a quick and easy thing to help you! Like I said above you can use betnovate which is amazing but even though it is a clear ointment it is very shiny and messy and would rub off on your clothes. In the past I have used simple derma intensive relief cream (you can buy it in superdrug and boots). Now I was abit sceptical about using it because I do have very sensitive skin and the last thing I wanted was something making it worse but trust me this shiz it great! It doesn't sting when you apply it and it helps alot with the itch.
- Heat rash makes me even more hotter because it has a burning sensation and to get a cool sensation what do you do? Rub ice on it. And if you have no ice then stand in the bath or shower and use the shower head to rince your body, wherever the heat rash is, in cold water to stop the burning.
-I've read somewhere that the blotches are caused by clogged pores, but nothing like spots or blackheads so DO NOT ATTEMP TO POP! They are clogged up with sweat that cannot be realeased. So, if your up for it, go for a jog in shorts and a t-shirt until you sweat and it will help.
-This one is quite a quirky one but i'd say it helps a little! If you have a cold setting on your hairdryer why not plug it in and use it to blow all over you body? This is also an easier way than the shower one but gives similar relief.
-Last but not least, wear loose and comfy clothes. The more fabric that rubs on your skin the more it's going to irritate the heat rash. At night wear shorts and a t-shirt (not joggers or a onesie! because then you're just asking for it;))! Or why not completely naked if it's that hot!
Thanks for reading and if you have any questions then feel free to ask and share your own advice as well! :)xx<3
